It starts with the shell
Every piece from Mindy Lopez Studios begins with a natural shell that is carefully hand-selected. Scallops for the night lights and the panels, oysters for the dishes and the ornaments, each one chosen for its shape, its ridges, and the way it will hold the light.
From there the shell is cleaned, lined with delicate decoupage, and edged or accented by hand in gold leaf. Some are mounted on rich navy canvas. Some are set on a square wood panel. Some are wired to glow.
No two are ever identical
Crafted with intention in California, each shell is arranged and gilded by hand. Mindy can paint a design again, but the shells themselves never match, so a second one is a sibling rather than a copy.
It is a slow process, and that is exactly the point.
